ITER Korea
Nine procurement items allocated to Korea for ITER construction are produced in a timely manner to secure core technologies for commercialization of nuclear fusion through technology development related to procurement and non-delivery products. By participating in operation and dispatching personnel to the ITER, KFE is contributing to the training of fusion energy specialists.
Mission
To secure core technologies for the development of future commercial fusion power plants through successful contributions to the ITER Project as the Korean Domestic Agency
Main Function
- To design construct and deliver on-time Korean procurement packages
- To secure important core technologies that are not part of Korean procurement
- To develope high caliber human resources through participation in the construction and operation of the ITER device
- To promote the bilateral cooperation with the ITER organization and other member countries as the Korean Domestic Agency
Major Achievements
Procurement Arrangements concluded on eight of nine procurement components. One item supplied in accordance with the ITER construction schedule (Oct. 2018) Korea was the first Member country to successfully completed its responsibilty for the ITER 'superconducting conductor' (Dec. 2014) KFE awarded more than 160 cases of overseas procurements (valued more than 680 billion won) for the ITER organization and Member countries. (Oct. 2022) Around Sixty fusion specialists, who play major roles in the ITER construction, dispatched to the ITER organization. They include a Head of Domain and senior managers who were responsible for R&D development and tokamak construction (Oct. 2022).
