A. Research Objective

  • Develop and operate the K-DEMO system integration platform

B. Major Research Areas

  • Research the system integration (configuration management and design integration) for each stage of development and operation of the K-DEMO (design, construction, operation, decommissioning)
  • Research safety and licensing considering the safety of the DEMO and the development of evaluation/verification technology

C. Expected Results

  • Develop the basic structure for the design of the fusion reactor and social acceptance of the construction of a fusion reactor

Remote control research

Technology development for the remote maintenance, replacement of the components, waste treatment and decontamination for DEMO

A. Research Objective

  • Develop the remote replacement and maintenance technology for in-vessel systems of DEMO

B. Major Research Areas

  • Establishment of the remote maintenance technology development strategy
  • Development of the remote robot design and manufacturing technology

C. Expected Results

  • Develop technologies for the stable operation and long-term operation of core in-vessel systems (e.g., breeding blankets) of the fusion reactor

Superconducting magnet research

Develop high-magnetic field superconducting magnet for the confinement and control of ultra-high temperature fusion plasma, operation of the fusion reactors, and improved economic feasibility

  • Develop high-magnetic field superconducting magnet technology to improve the operation performance of DEMO

B. Major Research Areas

  • Research on low-temperature and high-temperature superconducting wires and conductors for DEMO
  • Research on high magnetic field superconducting magnets for DEMO
  • Research on magnets for superconducting experiments for DEMO

C. Expected Results

  • Develop the international competitiveness of K-DEMO and use it in new high-value-added industries that require high current and high power
